Corn Exchange Roof Appeal

Wallingford's theatre/cinema is leaking. The 160 year old glass roof is well past its sell-by date and must be replaced now. The cost is huge and we need your help.

Story

Just over half way there! Still a way to go though ...

Thank you everyone for your fundraising support to date - on and off line. The recent theatrical marathon total is not yet confirmed but we look set to have raised over £5000! And the collection at the town Pancake Race provided over £1400. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Many small towns no longer have their own cinema and even fewer run to a theatre. Wallingford is fortunate still to have both. BUT the future of this town asset is at risk. The old Victorian roof is leaking badly and needs to be replaced. The Grade II listed Corn Exchange has been Wallingford's theatre since its conversion in the 1970s. Cinema started in 1980. The building is run, maintained and cared for by volunteers who sell over 25,000 tickets a year for a full programme of film, theatre, Pantomime, music, NT Live and community bookings that appeals to audiences of all ages. For full details of the Project (which includes work inside the building necessary for and because of the roof work as well as the new roof itself) please email: StopSingingintheRain@cornexchange.org.uk

The Corn Exchange Wallingford was converted from a derelict Grade II listed building into a theatre and cinema by the local dramatic society (whose President was Agatha Christie) and opened in 1978 by Sir Peter Hall. The building is managed and run entirely by unpaid volunteers for the community.
