Visit the charity's profileOver 1 million Rohingya Muslim Refugees have fled Myanmar to escape persecution There have been horrific reports of massacres, of homes set ablaze, of villages burned to the ground. Some have seen loved ones killed in front of them and faced appalling human rights violations. Most have walked for days, bringing with them harrowing stories of violence. Children are arriving in overcrowded makeshift camps. They are sick, exhausted and in desperate need of food, water and medicine. Many are also clearly traumatized by their experiences.
In January 2018 SMT volunteers distributed 1200 food parcels across three separate camps. Each parcel weighed 25kg and contained rice, potatoes, lentils, salt, oil and some other essentials. Cooked food was also distributed to over 1000 refugee children and their families. Throughout the trip we heard harrowing stories of rape, murder and brutal slaughter of loved ones. We saw a real desperation in the eyes of the refugees – although they had escaped the brutalities in Myanmar, the question is what lies ahead for them? Many of the Rohingya refugees don’t want to go back. Several families described the horrifying violence they had been through. They have lost so much and their experiences are beyond comprehension. There’s no doubt in the fact that the Bangladeshi Government is doing as much as it can but with an already struggling economy, Bangladesh too is limited in its resources. It is therefore extremely important that the international community come together to provide greater assistance to the Rohingya refugees. Please donate today and help the Rohingya Refugees. • £5will provide 1 meal for 10 children • £10 will provide a hygiene kit • £30 will provide food for a family for 2 weeks. • £60 will provide a Solar Powered Light • £320 will provide a shelter for 1 family.
