Story
Since the sudden and rapid escalation of violence in Myanmar at the end of August last year, more than 700,000 Rohingyas have fled to the Bangladeshi district of Cox’s Bazar. 55% are just children.
Many have seen their homes burnt and their loved ones killed, arriving traumatised, after travelling for days by foot, often with nothing but the clothes on their back.
Kutapalong refugee camp in Cox's Bazar is now the largest refugee settlement in the world. Children and their families are in urgent need of food, shelter, clean drinking water, hygiene and sanitation support.
With the onset of Bangladesh's monsoon season, heavy rainfall and powerful winds are now tearing through the refugee camp and signalling even harder times ahead for children and their families who have already experienced unimaginable suffering.
Save the Children is on the ground working around the clock to deliver urgent emergency support to children. We're rapidly adapting our response to prepare for the monsoon season and reduce the impact on children and their families. We're distributing food and shelter items, delivering lifesaving healthcare and providing education and child protection support.
But much more needs to be done to meet the overwhelming needs and we must act now. Together, we can create a brighter future for children caught up in this devastating crisis.
