Story
A combination of recurring drought and conflict has left 21 million people across Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan in urgent need of food assistance.
Severe food and water shortages is threatening children's lives and driving families from their homes. Millions of children are at risk of malnutrition. Outbreaks of cholera and deadly illnesses such as diarrhoea have pushed families with restricted access to safe water and basic healthcare to the limit.
As children’s lives are turned upside down they are also forced to drop out of school, heightening risks of exploitation and threatening their futures.
In recent months, parts of all four countries have seen the arrival of rains. However, the weather has been so extreme that is has destroyed the hopes of rains leading to meaningful recovery in many areas across the region.
Well above average rainfall has caused flash flooding, which has devastated crops and farms, seen homes been swept away leaving thousands more displaced and significantly increased the risk of water-borne diseases.
While the drought may be over in some places, children who were already vulnerable are now in an even more critical situation. The situation is extremely fragile and the needs are immense but so is our determination to reach every last child.
We’re providing food and water to drought-stricken communities. We’re treating malnourished children and running mobile health clinics to provide health and nutrition support to hard-to-reach areas. We’re protecting children and helping them stay in education. We're helping families recover and rebuild their lives through livelihood support.
We’re working hard to reach every last child, but the lives of millions are at stake. Please help us reach children in East Africa before it’s too late.
Thank you for your support. Together we can help save lives.
