Story
HMS Canada was a dreadnought class battleship originally ordered by the Chilean navy. At the outbreak of WWI, the Admiralty requisitioned the ship and she was commissioned into the Royal Navy. She was unique among the Dreadnoughts as she was fitted with 14 inch main guns. She fought with distinction at the Battle of Jutland before being decommissioned by the Royal Navy and sold to the Chileans. The model is around 16 feet long and was donated to the National Museum of the Royal Navy by the Imperial War Museum. Most of the superficial damage is a result of bombings on London in WWII.
The model is in a sorry state of repair and will take in the region of £15,000 to put right and the Friends have already donated £10,000 from reserve funds. We still need to raise another £5000 in order to fully fund the restoration project so that the model can be displayed in Portsmouth next year as part of the National Museum of the Royal Navy's Jutland 100 exhibition.
