Story
The Royal Marsden is always looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. We are constantly working to develop breakthroughs in the early detection of cancer to help patients in the UK and across the world.
These breakthroughs allow us to help many more patients like Laura Moses benefit from the best possible treatment available and take greater control of their lives.
Pioneering research we carried out with the ICR uncovered that a woman who inherits a faulty BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene has an increased risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers. Because Laura tested positive for a mutated BRCA1 gene and began to show worrying symptoms, she was transferred to The Royal Marsden for assessment.
Thankfully, this led to us diagnosing Laura’s ovarian cancer quickly, and she was able to start treatment just four days later. Treatment we could precisely tailor because Laura’s BRCA status gave us an excellent understanding of the molecular make-up of her cancer.
So please give a gift today to help The Royal Marsden’s early diagnosis research programme make new discoveries that will change the way we detect and treat cancer in the future.
