Story
This centre will be used to treat veteran patients in a bespoke care environment.
Background
The current service, the first of its kind in the UK, delivers two outpatient clinics per month and is open to those who have served with the UK military, including National Service. The service is led by Lt Col Carl Meyer, a consultant military orthopaedic surgeon at RJAH.
Why the new centre is needed
We would like to develop the Veterans' Service by providing a dedicated environment specifically designed for their care and expanding the service to cover the whole range of orthopaedic treatment and rehabilitation, connecting to the other healthcare services. The new purpose designed Centre will be built to the highest standards and have a more familiar, military feel to make our veteran patients more comfortable. It will provide a modern state of the art facility in line with the Trust's vision to be the leading centre in orthopaedic care.
Supporting our Veterans
The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital is very proud to support the Armed Forces, from releasing reservist staff for duty to make an official pledge by signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant. We also fully support the recommendations in the Chevasse Report to do more for our Veterans and welcome involvement with the recently formed Veterans' Covenant Hospital Alliance under the Patron General Lord Dannatt.
