Story
We are on the move again and need to raise £6,500 to go towards creating upto four soundproofed safe spaces for face to face sessions with women and girls who have been sexually assaulted.
We are facing a significant challenge, for the second time in 4 years we have been given notice by our landlords and need to find new city centre premises. Moving premises is a huge undertaking for us, trying to balance the ongoing needs of our clients - ensuring they can continue to receive support during the move for example. As well as the logistics of moving a team and nearly 40 years of history!
It is crucial that the women and girls who come to us for counselling and support feel safe in the space and approaching the space. Which means the search for a new place to base ourselves can be extensive, we must be centrally located and we must be mindful of the traumatic experiences our clients have endured.
What’s more, we have to ensure that the space in which we deliver our one-to-one work is private, welcoming and secure; hence the need for soundproofing. Next year, we reach our 40th year as Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland - and sadly we know are services are needed more than ever.
We are turning to you, our community to help us to reach a fundraising target of £6,500.
What will we do with this money?
If we raise £6,500 we will use the money to create a completely soundproofed, safe space in which women and girls can receive counselling and practical and emotional support in our new premises in Newcastle City Centre.
This will include:
- all materials required such as Isomax soundproofing for walls and ceiling
- a professional team to install the soundproofing
- privacy blinds on windows and doors
- carpeting
- furniture and soft furnishings
- security lock and keypad on entrances
If we raise more than £6,500 we will use the additional funds to deliver our face to face services throughout Tyneside and Northumberland.
