Visit the charity's profileMany people do not realise that every year thousands of dogs and other domestic animals held in pounds are destroyed. These animals are there through no fault of their own – they are abandoned, strays, or have been placed there by people who can no longer care for them or simply do not want them. Pound Puppy is a small charitable animal rescue centre which was set up 21 years ago by Jayne Gooderson to help animals that were in the pound and due to be destroyed. Over the years, Jayne and her growing band of volunteers have rescued not just dogs, but other domestic animals in need of their help; including cats, horses, birds, even the odd chipmunk. Although the centre is based in Lychette Matravers, we rescue animals from anywhere we are able to reach in the UK and beyond. Our mission is to take the animals in and care for them, and if necessary to arrange vet treatment and nurse them back to health. The animals are cared for in carefully chosen foster homes across Dorset & Hampshire. After a minimum of 10 days with their foster carer to ensure they are healthy, and to assess their nature, we then look for a suitable forever home in a happy and caring environment.
