Story
After months of preparation for Paragon’s annual inclusive arts fundraiser, “Jamathon ‘18”, which was due to take place on Tuesday 19th June at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) on Sauchiehall Street, we have had to cancel the event, costing the charity thousands of pounds. The Paragon team is still unable to enter its office in the CCA and access via the Scott Street entrance to the building, which is vital for the emergency evacuation of wheelchair users, remains closed with no timeline on when it is due to reopen. As a result, the fundraiser has been called off for safety reasons.
The Jamathon brings people with and without disabilities together to make music and dance all day through accessible and inclusive workshops. These include mindful drumming for mental health and wellbeing, digital, dance, yoga and songwriting. There was also to be an evening showcase with performances from Paragon’s disabled and non-disabled musicians and dancers.
Hundreds of people were due to come along to take part in the festival, including members from our partner organisations such as Glasgow Disability Alliance and Capability Scotland. As a result of this terrible fire, the charity will incur losses of thousands of pounds, which will have a severe impact on our annual programme of events.
Paragon Music is taking donations in the hope that we will be able to raise enough money to put our inclusive arts festival on later in the year.
Thank you very much for supporting our cause.
