Story

Mental health is important to us all. Each year, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health issue and 1 in 100 will suffer from a serious mental illness. Keeping physically active can play a key role in improving mental wellbeing and some of the great ways to do so include walking, running, cycling or jogging. There’s plenty to discover beyond your doorstep. Support in Mind Scotland's 100 Streets Challenge is FREE and every person who completes the challenge will receive a certificate. Any participant who completes the challenge and raises or donates a minimum of £10 will also receive a medal and a T-shirt. We are aiming to raise at least £10,000 this year to help Support in Mind Scotland to continue delivering crucial mental health services across Scotland. For more information and to register for free, please visit:www.100streetschallenge.com or www.supportinmindscotland.org.uk

WHAT DOES THE CHALLENGE INVOLVE?

  • This is a great way to improve not only your mental wellbeing but your physical health.
  • Exercising by running, walking or cycling can help to release those all-important endorphins, relieve stress and clear your head.
  • It’s an opportunity to get out, explore and see what lies beyond your doorstep.
  • Take on the 100 Streets Challenge on your own, with a friend, or as part of a group.
  • Be creative and use your imagination when creating your own route.
  • Typically, we find the distance works out between 6 and 9 miles.
  • It’s not a race.  It’s all about having fun and helping yourself to feel well.
  • Maybe stop for a cuppa, a chat and a well-deserved cake along the way.
  • Taking part is absolutely free, but any money you raise through donations and sponsorship will help deliver vital mental health services in Scotland.
  • Don’t be shy! Tell us how you got on: share your efforts, pictures and stories on social media.
  • So get on your trainers or cycling helmet and start your fitness one street at a time.
