Story

This medieval scabbard was discovered during excavations for Castle Mall right next to the Castle itself. This would have been used in battle to hold a dagger as a second weapon. The leather is stamped with diamond shapes and the copper alloy terminal is finely decorated with punched holes, engraved lines and a saw-tooth edge. The leather tongue would have attached to a buckle so it could be worn on a belt. This would be of great interest to any local history or weaponry enthusiast and is a particularly fascinating item to view up close.

The minimum donation to become a Silver Adopter of this object is £25. After clicking 'Donate', please enter this amount before continuing.
