Story

Snap dragons were used for over 500 years in Norwich festivals and this wonderfully colourful character continues to draw a crowd at the castle even today. This particular costume was used in the 1700s-1800s and people wearing it would snatch hats from the crowds using moveable jaws, and create sparks and roars using gunpowder to everyone's amazement. This is a fantastic opportunity for a museum supporter or perhaps a local firm to raise their profile by doing something a little different and help demonstrate that there always has been, and always will be, much to celebrate in our fine city of Norwich.
