Story
The Health Tree Foundation (HTF) together with colorectal teams at Grimsby and Scunthorpe Hospital are setting their targets high to raise £200,000 for their bowel cancer patients.
Some might recall back in 2009, the hospital and staff successfully raised over £150,000 through their Bottoms Up Appeal. With this in mind, the fundraising efforts are set to return in the form of the launch of “Rear into Gear”. The Rear into Gear Appeal aims to raise £200,000 for the provision of two new state-of-the-art laparoscopic (keyhole surgery) theatre stacks at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital and Scunthorpe General Hospital.
The money will enable surgeons to perform the latest and most complex keyhole procedures for patients undergoing bowel cancer and bowel related illnesses. The camera systems on the new equipment will deliver extremely high quality visions for surgeons.
Hundreds of bowel cancer patients of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole foundation are likely to benefit each year. Additional patients with colitis, IBS and more bowel related conditions will see improvement as the equipment will be available to them during an non surgery day for the colorectal team. Many of these patients would have previously have had ‘open surgery’ which would have meant longer hospital stays and recovery times and a great post-operative pain and scarring.
Please do feel free to get your "Rear into Gear" and help us make this a reality.
