The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profileRight now, the National Autistic Society is intervening in a case involving an autistic pupil who was excluded from school. Our aim is to challenge a specific part of the law which allows schools to claim that they are not discriminating against pupils with disabilities if they have a ‘tendency to physical abuse’. The National Autistic Society explained to the court that this legal loophole effectively allows schools to exclude pupils with conditions such as autism, without really trying to meet their needs and provide the support that would enable them to manage their behaviour.
The action we’re currently taking is just part of our fight to make sure that autistic children and adults can get the help they need. We want to continue to be able challenge the law in the future – but the National Autistic Society is a charity, with limited funds.
Our previous campaigns have started a conversation that will go a long way to making a difference, but we can’t stop there. I It’s crucial that we highlight the issue of school exclusions today, but autistic children become autistic adults and we also need to be ready to campaign so that every autistic person can get the help they need throughout their lives. So we’re raising funds to ensure we’re always able to campaign on these critical issues and ensure autistic people can live in a world that works for them.
Please donate today. Your support will make a positive and lasting difference to so many autistic people and their families. Thank you.
