Story
Navigator is a project run by Medics against Violence, a small Scottish violence reduction charity. We're supported by our NHS partners. We're a team of dedicated support workers. We support people, whose lives have often reached crisis point with some of the complex social issues that often result in chaos and violence. We work between the Emergency Departments in Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Crosshouse Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, University Hospital Wishaw, University Hospital Hairmyres, Ninewells Hospital and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. We work alongside amazing medical & nursing staff who work miracles daily to save lives & some great third sector & statutory organisations in the community. We meet our service users when they are injured or unwell, at a time when to them, their problems may seem insurmountable. We provide advice and support ourselves but also through our connections with other amazing community based organisations to help our service users get closer to where they really want to be.
'Running on Empty' allows us to help some of the people we support whose circumstances are particularly challenging. Some need more support from us than others. This is where this fund comes in, it allows us to do that little bit extra for people if they need it when other funds are not available. These may be people fleeing a violent household who have nothing but the clothes they stand up in, someone who is homeless who needs a decent meal, a young person who needs bus fares to get to job interviews or just someone who needs a long chat over a cup of coffee.
If you feel you can help by donating even a small amount we would be very grateful. Every penny including Gift Aid will go to the people we support, we will also periodically raise money by taking part in sporting events and challenges and will let you know about those too.
