On average you receive a cancer diagnosis in just seven minutes. In those few moments your whole world falls apart. Whilst medical teams based in NHS hospitals focus on giving the best possible medical care, they simply do not have time to answer all of the overwhelming questions that come when you are told you have cancer. At Maggie’s we do.

Working in partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Maggie’s have launched a Campaign to build a new cancer support Centre in Leeds called Maggie’s Yorkshire, which will provide free support to anyone diagnosed with cancer and their family and friends.

There are currently 172,000 people living with or after cancer in Yorkshire and there are 30,000 people newly diagnosed with cancer each year. By 2020, it is expected that one in every two people will be affected by cancer in their life time making it even more vital that we have the right kind of support available in Yorkshire.

The Maggie’s Yorkshire Centre will be warm, welcoming and full of light, providing a joined up cancer support service to complement the medical treatment provided in the oncology unit at St James’s Hospital. The Centre will meet the growing needs of local people with cancer as we expect the Centre to see in excess of 30,000 visits per year.

Thanks to all of the amazing and generous support we have received so far, we have raised an incredible £5.1 million, which means we can start building the Centre before the end of the year.

With your help, we can reach the minimum £6 million we need to ensure that we can open the doors of Maggie's Yorkshire, and cover the running costs for the first two years, giving us the time we need to ensure Maggie's is sustainable and can deliver the vital and unique programme of care to anyone who needs it for years to come.
