Story
Why have we chosen Mind’s Blue Light Programme
Research from Mind shows that members of the emergency services are even more at risk of experiencing a mental health problem than the general population, but are less likely to seek support. We want to help change this.
Following the recent attacks across the UK and the Grenfell Tower tragedy, we want to help and support the heroes who risk their lives and work tirelessly to protect us.
Mind’s Blue Light Programme provides mental health support for emergency services staff and volunteers from ambulance, fire, police and search and rescue services across England and Wales. The programme offers training, information and resources, peer to peer support and a confidential advice and support helpline. Their confidential Blue Light Infoline offers independent and practical support, advice and signposting around mental health and wellbeing. It is for emergency services staff, volunteers and their families. The backbone of their programme are their Blue Light Champions. Blue Light Champions volunteer their time, skills and bountiful passion to raise awareness and understanding of mental health and help break down stigma in the emergency services. They currently have just under 1,500 champions who work determinedly to help create a mentally healthy workplace and support their colleagues.
Mind’s Blue Light Programme works closely with the emergency services and a host of other organisations in the sector, enabling as many as possible to be aware of the support available.
Please help support this brilliant campaign to help all of those professionals and volunteers that put their lives at risk to help us.
