Story

You can watch the 2017 and 2018 Steve Lawn Memorial Lectures online.

If you are in the UK, you can now text "LAWN17 £10" to 70070 to give £10 to the Fund. (You can change the amount to give up to £10).

Steve Lawn was a professor of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and worked at the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre, University of Cape Town. He made major contributions to diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis among people with AIDS, authoring over 250 publications and receiving many awards.Steve's love of Africa was catalysed by a trans-Saharan expedition and he was passionate about improving health for the poorest. He had an irrepressible sense of humour and loved challenges like climbing Kilimanjaro and running ultra-marathons. Even whilst undergoing chemotherapy, he continued to work and teach, inspiring students. As his cancer progressed, Steve and his wife Joy (also an LSHTM Professor), with colleagues around the world, decided to establish this Memorial Fund, providing an annual lecture by a leading authority in TB and a monetary prize for an upcoming researcher. For more information contact: sarah.enderby@lshtm.ac.uk
