Story
Every penny raised throughout this campaign will support the work of Kidney Wales supporting families and changing the lives of patients in Wales.
We are currently working hard to improve the dialysis provision for the children of Wales. Over 500 families visit the Kidney Wales Children's Centre to receive their treatment, sometimes as much as three times a week. During the unfortunate event of a hospital admittance for a child living with kidney disease, any dialysis provision received will be based at the Pelican Ward.
The Pelican Ward is a four-bed dialysis unit at the University Hospital of Wales that is currently being redeveloped to make it more of a home from home for the children and their family during their hospital stay. In addition to the refurbishment and re-design of the ward, we will introduce additional bed side technology for educational and entertainment purposes for the patients, in the hope to give the children a more positive experience on the unit whilst trying to redirect their mind from the grueling treatment. With dialysis taking up to six hours per session, we want to make the facilities as comfortable as possible and take away some of the burden of living with this life long chronic condition.
Kidney Wales are fully funding this project which is expected to be completed by June 2018. By bringing just £1 to work and spreading awareness on World Kidney Day, you can support this project and many more like it in the future.
