Story
The ISPCA 2017 Charity Ride to help cruelly treated and abused horses and ponies is an opportunity for members of AIRC across the country to take part in a sponsored ride at a time of their choosing during 2017. Rather than organising a sponsored ride at a specific place, you can ride around your local area to save on travel costs and get as many people to join you as possible. Take plenty of photos and videos and track how far you travel then let us know how you got on! Send all to fundraising@ispca.ie and we will share on ISPCA facebook and twitter. We operate 2 centres; The ISPCA National Animal Centre based in Keenagh, Co. Longford and the ISPCA Equine Rescue Centre based in Mallow, Co. Cork. The ISPCA’s public liability insurance does not extend to third party individuals and group. All third parties must have their own insurance
The ISPCA is the leading national animal welfare charity in Ireland. Our role is to prevent cruelty to animals, to promote animal welfare and to proactively relieve animal suffering in Ireland. We have 8 inspectors investigating animal cruelty in 17 counties. Our confidential National Animal Helpline received over 16,000 calls in 2016 of which 3,500 calls were cases of animal cruelty which required Inspector visits. Last year, we rescued rehomed and rehabilitated 1,263 animals that were cruelly treated and abused. In March we launched our annual Inspectorate report which highlighted that we received 53,000 calls to our national cruelty helpline; 11, 065 investigations were initiated; 2,795 animals were seized and 92 prosecutions taken since we were granted statutory powers under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013.
The ISPCA is full to capacity at our National Animal Centre in Longford and in our Equine Rescue Centre in Cork. We need to upgrade and expand our facilities to care for more rescued equines. At any one time we have up to 90 equines on site in our Cork and Longford centres.
