Our goal is to restore one of the most useful plants of the drylands, the
Yeheb shrub. Once common across Somalia and Ethiopia it has nearly been eliminated, removing an important source of food, fodder and income for local people. This contributes to poverty, insecurity and even conflict With limited resources, our project leader
Muna Ismail has already achieved so much. Following a
scoping mission in June 2015, she returned in December to deliver seed and seedlings that had been donated by a farmer from Somalia who wanted to help his northern neighbours. The seeds were planted in six locations and are already beginning to grow. The real work now begins. There are many needs - fencing, irrigation, care of the young plants, training... and so many opportunities, from improved grazing and nutrition to the eventual marketing of Yeheb nuts as a source of income. Will you help us sow seeds of hope in Somaliland? Please support us if you can and keep in touch via the
project's website.
