Story
'Without I CAN, we truly believe Anthony wouldn't be in the situation he's in now. They helped him find his speaking voice for which we, as a family, are totally indebted. They gave him the confidence to go to college and to the find work.' Liz – mother of marathon runner and I CAN alumnus, Anthony.
You might not realise it, but as many as half of all children are entering primary schools without the speech and language skills that they need to learn, make friends and achieve. For parents and families of the 1.4 million children in the UK with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), finding an accurate diagnosis and securing the appropriate support for their child can be an ongoing challenge.
Nearly half of all teachers are not trained to identify or support children with SLCN. With the right help, early on, we can equip these children with the skills they need to succeed in life. I CAN exists solely to support those children, their families and the practitioners involved in their learning and wellbeing.
You can be part of this story. By running for I CAN, you are taking action against the less known plight of our times. The money you are raising means we can be there for more children like Anthony, and get one step closer to achieving our vision of a world where all children have the communication skills they need to fulfil their potential.
The money you raise will go towards:
•Providing speech and language assessments to children from low-income backgrounds, who are most likely to experience Delayed Language
•Answering more phone calls on the “I CAN Help” advice line to offer professional guidance and advice to parents of children with SLCN, so they are more equipped to support children at home
•Reaching out to and training more teachers and early years practitioners in identifying and educating children with SLCN
Thank you!
