Story
ReCycle Bikes have been recycling bicycle donations from the general public for over 10 years, bringing unwanted and discarded bicycles back to life and keeping them out of the waste stream.
In 2016 alone we received 582 donations, of which 198 were refurbished and sold in order to help keep the project funded.
Alongside our commercial workshop, we run our Alternative Education Programme for 14 -16 year olds. The programme uses bike mechanics as a tool to re-engage young people with the learning process.
We help young people who are not achieving in mainstream education and are often at risk of disengaging with the schools system altogether.
With us they gain the opportunity to learn alongside fully-qualified mechanics and experience how a ‘real-life’ bicycle mechanics workshop operates.
The programme is a mix of theoretical and ‘hands-on’ learning, designed to improve the self esteem and self confidence of our learners while simultaneously preparing them for the world of work.
