Story
"Each year, millions of women and children die from preventable causes. These are not mere statistics. They are people with names and faces.”– Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary-General
Every mother should be able to feel excitement, not fear, at the birth of their child. However, many of the families we work with live in extremely remote areas where local clinics are understaffed and underequipped.
It Takes a Village is creating a global community of parents who share a united goal: to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. No matter where they are, parents share many of the same hopes, dreams, anxieties and frustrations. We are bringing together parents from around the world.
The money raised will be used to provide training for health professionals so they can spot danger signs in pregnancy, enable emergency transport for mothers in labour and support health facilities in hard to reach areas.
Not only do we support remote health workers, but we also address the root causes of the problem. We do this by tackling discrimination, working alongside local government to improve infrastructure, and providing traditional birth attendants with the medical skills they need.
But we couldn’t do it without your support. That’s why we are launching our brand new campaign 'It Takes a Village' – to unite parents with a shared goal – to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother.
£8.74 ($11.28) could support outreach officers to facilitate community discussions on family planning, reducing the risks of pregnancy by encouraging spacing between children.
£20.55 ($26.38) could provide medical staff with support and training to implement quarterly blood drives, ensuring no women need to die from blood loss in childbirth.
£46.30 ($59.42) could help to run a weekly radio show about maternal health, allowing women in remote, inaccessible areas to receive the health education they need to keep themselves safe.
