Visit the charity's profileDuring the 1970s and 80s blood transfusions and the blood products for treating Haemophilia and other bleeding disorders were vulnerable to Hepatitis C and HIV.In Scotland everyone treated for a bleeding disorder was infected with Hepatitis C, 478 people and 60 were also infected with HIV. It has been estimated that 2,500 people were infected with Hepatitis C by a blood transfusion, and some were also infect with HIV. There are just 251 survivors with a bleeding disorder and 471 following a transfusion.Bereaved families and others are working to erect a lasting memorial to those they have lost and to recognizing the suffering caused to so many.
The project belongs to the families themselves and is facilitated by Haemophilia Scotland.
