Story
Birk Crag Centre is Girlguiding North Yorkshire West County's activity, training and residential centre. We aim to serve the guiding community by providing a modern, multi-purpose and environmentally friendly base for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Adults and Trefoil members.
Additionally, we look forward to welcoming members of our local community into the re-built Centre for activities and meetings. After over 50 years of continuous use, years of consultation with members and others, Planning Permission was granted, demolition took place in 2018 and building started in Spring 2019.
The Centre will provide a hall seating a maximum of 120, activity and meeting rooms, dining room, small lounge, kitchen and County office to support our members, together with residential accommodation for 40. Outside there will be grass and campfire areas, woodland trail and parking spaces.
Work is underway to focus on the ground floor and basement, to be followed by fitting out which will turn the building shell into our new home. Internal walls are up, plastered and have been undercoated with paint - we hold regular painting events to give our local volunteers some ownership of the project.
We are very grateful to everyone who has contributed and continue to fundraise to achieve the dream of so many, but we still need your help please to complete the final fitting out and to enable us to welcome our members, children and adults, Scouting and local community groups.
Any help you can give through donations, fundraising or contacts will be very much appreciated. For further information please email: info@girlguidingnyw.org.uk Thank you for any support you can give and we hope to see you in the new Centre soon.
