Moorfields Eye Hospital is one of only four centres in the UK to offer a highly specialistocular oncology service, that treats tumours of the eye. Many tumours, such asa cyst, haemorrhage or naevus (mole) are benign. However, they also treat raretypes of eye cancers and surface tumours.
Ocular melanoma isthe most common type of eye tumour, though is still a very rare form of canceraffecting only between 5 and 7 people in every million. There are no knowncauses of this condition and it is not linked to skin melanoma. As with all types of cancer early diagnosis/treatment and close monitoring are key to a patients chancesof a successful outcome. This camera really is a vital piece of equipment.
