Story
Everyone should have the opportunity to be inspired by the power of singing and experience the many well-being benefits of singing, which is why Ex Cathedra has developed Singing Medicine for children at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Singing Pathways for stroke and dementia patients at Solihull Hospital.
"Singing Medicine made me feel all better outside and inside, it made me feel happy!" Patient
“Finding you can sing, my husband tells me, is like finding temporary freedom from imprisonment. Suddenly, you do have a voice and you can express yourself.” Wife of stroke patient
Both projects are funded solely by donations and grants and are only possible thanks to our very kind supporters. With your support we can transport children away from the hospital environment through song, and temporarily “unlock” the speech of stroke patients.
Singing Medicine Vocal Tutors use a vast range of interactive songs and singing games to bring important distraction from the hospital environment and provide an opportunity for children to play, smile and laugh, and forget about their illness for a short time.
Through weekly singing sessions at Solihull Hospital, Singing Pathways aims to support the speech and language development of stroke and dementia patients, improve well-being, provide an opportunity for patients to socialise, and enable family members to get involved and share in positive activity together.
We challenge you to raise funds for Singing Medicine and Singing Pathways projects by participating in our sponsored Grade-one-a-thon. Your mission (if you choose to accept it!) is to learn a new instrument to Grade One standard and take your ABRSM exam in October 2018.
