Story

Every hour over 11,000 sharks are killed by humans, caught up in illegal fishing practices or targeted for their fins.

16 species of shark now face extinction.

EJF is working with local communities in West Africa to eradicate the illegal fishing activities which are driving sharks to extinction and raising awareness of the importance of protecting these magnificent creatures. Through our work we aim to document shark catch in order to make the case for national conservation efforts across the West African region.

Sharks have been in our oceans for over 400 million years. They are older than the dinosaurs. They've witnessed centuries of the world’s history, and are an important part of it.

They deserve a future and through your help we can work together to ensure they have one.

Will you help us protect these magnificent creatures?

About the charity

EJF works in some of the world's most difficult and remote countries to protect vulnerable communities, wildlife and wild places. Our campaigns have led to action on forced labour and human trafficking, national and global bans on deadly pesticides and arrests of illegal 'pirate' fishing trawlers.
