Story
On the 5th and the 16th September Guernsey Swim Adventures will be organising two very different charity Herm Swim events. Participants will be raising money for The Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief and This Is EPIC.
The Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief is GSA’s chosen Charity. They provide assistance to local cancer sufferers and their families when the extra financial burdens are beyond the capabilities of the family. Most requests are received through palliative care nurses who are part of the Bulstrode Oncology unit. www.cancerrelief.org.gg
This Is EPIC will use the money raised to develop their project in the Democratic Republic of Congo. 10 new savings groups will be started which will directly impact 300 people and more than 2000 indirectly to help them rise from poverty. www.thisisepic.gg.
THE EVENTS:
16th September – GSA EPIC Herm Swim
45 swimmers will tackle the 4.75km swim across the Little Russel from St Sampson Harbour to Hotel Beach in Herm.
Swimmers will need to complete the swim in 2 hours through challenging tides, possibly encountering local sea life whilst staying mentally tough in a true open water environment.
For many this will be their first Herm crossing and longest swim to date. The Herm swim is an iconic challenge pushing swimmers outside of their comfort zone.
5th August – GSA EPIC Herm Challenge 18:18
A small group of swimmers will attempt to complete three Herm Island swim challenges:
1. Night swim - Guernsey to Herm - 4.75km
2. Herm circumnavigation - 7km
3. Return - Herm to Guernsey - 6.5km
18km within 18 hours will challenge the swimmers both physically and mentally.
Thank you for supporting these events.
