Story
Welcome to the Dementia UK 2018 Great North Run campaign page! Here you can see how all of our amazing Great North Run fundraisers are getting on and how much they have raised as a team. We have our biggest team ever this year, so we're trying to raise more than ever before!
Dementia is the major health issue of our time. Every three minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed.
Dementia can rob a person of their memory, ability to communicate and socialise, and alter their personality and mood. But it's not just the person with dementia who is affected - the toll on their families can be huge too. 670,000 relatives and friends care for people with dementia, often with little help and advice.
Nothing can truly prepare families for how dementia can turn their lives upside down. But Dementia UK makes sure they don’t have to cope alone. When things get challenging or difficult, our Admiral Nurses work alongside families, giving the one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions that can be hard to find elsewhere.
£14 could pay for a person in crisis to get specialist, compassionate advice from an Admiral Nurse on our Dementia Helpline.
£27 could pay for a new Admiral Nurse for an hour, reaching families facing dementia who currently have no other support network.
£500 could mean two Admiral Nurses taking Helpline calls from people with nowhere else to turn on a Sunday, when other services are closed.
£4,050 could send 30 Admiral Nurses to a specialist masterclass on caring for people with dementia at the end of their life.
£50,000 could allow Dementia UK to partner an organisation to establish a brand new Admiral Nurse service for two years, bringing specialist dementia care to those who desperately need it.
