Story
Cornwall Air Ambulance strives to reach everyone in need and care for them in the most effective way, but his is not always possible when the time to save lives is so very short. There are people who need our help but we can't reach them due to the limitations of the ageing MD902 helicopter we operate and limited equipment it can carry.
We know we can save more time and save more lives by purchasing a new generation helicopter that is faster, can fly further and is more powerful. That helicopter is an AW169. It will provide our highly skilled crew with technologically advanced features and equipment needed to truly exploit their lifesaving skills.
The AW169 will increase the number of missions we can fly by increasing the amount of time the helicopter is online and available to respond to emergencies. The extra fuel capacity enables the crew to fly straight from one patient to the next without stopping to refuel, and the extra power will allow more lifesaving equipment to be carried.
The AW169 will protect the future of the charity financially as ownership provides improved financial security against the current expensive leasing arrangement.
Above all else, the AW169 will become the 'A&E for the skies'. The crew will be able to recreate a hospital emergency department in the back of the helicopter, providing patients with the treatment they need at the scene quickly, saving precious minutes that really do matter.
Next generation helicopters are not cheap particularly for a small charity like Cornwall Air Ambulance which receives no government or lottery funding towards its running costs.
The AW169 costs £7.5m. The Charity has secured £5m and is very close to bringing this new generation helicopter to Cornwall by April 2020, but there is a shortfall of £2.5m. Join the mission today and help us to Save More Time and Save More Lives.
