Running the London Marathon has always been on my bucket list. The work Cobalt do with regard to dementia is close to my heart. I lost someone very close to me to this terrible disease and saw first-hand the pain and upset this caused to my family as the disease progressed and the legacy it left behind. This made me determined to use, what may possibly be, my once in a lifetime opportunity to run London to raise money for Cobalt. I am proud to have worked for Cobalt for 12 years now, as Manager of the PET/CT department. The Charity do lots of great work, including investment in specialist scans, research and equipment to help diagnose dementia faster, enabling patients and their families to better plan for the future. This includes an exciting joint venture with the 2gether NHS Foundation Trust to develop dementia research. The Charity also runs an annual national dementia conference for medical professionals showcasing the latest developments in dementia research and management. I know I have lots of training ahead of me and it’s going to be one of the biggest challenges I have ever set myself, with a busy job and family finding the time will be tough but I'm really looking forward to it. My daughter Eimear is my biggest fan and I know she will be behind me every step of the way. We love the outdoors and being active is so important to us, we don’t need an excuse for adventure or getting dirty!. I have great support from my friends and colleagues, who have agreed to help me with training, especially my friend Selena and my Personal Trainer Sam Neades who I know will keep me on the right track. My training started in beautiful Cornwall with my new trainers. My morning runs across the cliff tops were just bliss, hopefully the next 4 months will be just as good. I have some great fundraising ideas planned.
