24 hour Cycling World Record Challenge
18th – 19th November
Please support ex Cardiff YMCA resident Celso Fonseca to raise enough funds to enable him to compete in the '24 hour Cycling World Record Challenge' being held at Maindy Stadium, Cardiff from the 18th – 19th November.
The 24 hour World Record for outdoor track currently stands at 890 kilometres (548 miles). Each lap at Maindy Stadium covers 460m. Celso’s goal will be an astonishing 2000 laps (900 kilometres=560 miles)!
A message from Celso: ‘I’m doing this challenge to raise awareness of homelessness for the YMCA. I was a resident at their hostel in Roath last year and I was given lots of support. Now that I have moved out I would like to give something back’.
He continued: ‘The hardest part of this challenge is to eat food and stay awake - especially at night time. I will need to keep myself mentality focused all day or it's not going to work out well as I don’t want to drop the pace here and there. The hallucinations are very difficult to deal with; your neck muscles start to give in, and your head feels very heavy - but even that won't stop me doing it’.
Keith Wood (Maindy Stadium) said that he and other members of staff are looking forward to Celso taking part in this challenge, and have agreed to stay at the centre overnight to support him.
If you would like to help Celso to take this challenge, please make a donation. No matter how small your donation is - every penny will be used to support this challenge.
Additionally, if you would like to support homeless services at the YMCA, please feel free to set up your own fundraising page for this campaign or contact Mandy Caddy, Finance Development Manager, YMCA Cardiff for further information: mandy.caddy@ymcacardiff.wales
Thank You!
