Story
Six of our Blind Veterans UK members are taking on the D-Day 44 Challenge to raise vital funds to help change the lives of visually-impaired veterans.
Beneficiaries Carl Adamson, Chris Kennedy, Lloyd Hanslow, Michael Johnson, Steve Thomas and Peter O’Malley will be tackling the 44 mile course along with guides Glynis Gillam and Steve Mills.
The D-Day 44 Challenge is a unique event that sees participants either run 44 miles or walk 22 miles along the Normandy coastline on the 6th June to commemorate the 1944 Allied invasion of occupied France on the anniversary of D-Day. The route will take participants over varied terrains from sand dunes, through marsh lands and pebble beach’s making the challenge even tougher for the brave members taking part.
Blind Veterans UK is the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women. We’ve improved the quality of life of thousands of veterans and their families since 1915. Blind Veterans UK believes that no one who has served our country should battle blindness alone.
Any donations and support received are greatly appreciated and funds will be used to better the lives of vision-impaired veterans with the rehabilitation, training and support they need to discover life beyond sight loss. This ranges from helping them relearn vital skills to providing them with the tools they need to be independent in their own homes. Our veterans are also offered training and recreation opportunities and we also provide long-term nursing, residential and respite care.
