Story
For Lucy, the nightmare of a late-night call from hospital telling her that Campbell, her fiancé, had fallen 25 feet and suffered horrific head injuries. “There’s not many people at 32 that go to work and have to wait for a support worker to come and look after their husband.”
For Marcus, a high-speed motorbike accident that left him paralysed from the chest down. “My head was on a curb… I looked up at my friend and he was in tears, saying ‘just stay alive.’”
For Vicky, a day out with friends that ended in horror when she was involved in a rollercoaster crash which left her needing a leg amputation: “I looked down at my legs and I knew I wasn’t walking off that ride.”
Campbell, Marcus and Vicky and are among the 90,000 people affected by trauma every year in the UK.
But they are the 'lucky' ones.
Every day, 46 people die from catastrophic trauma injuries. 46 lives lost prematurely; 46 families left devastated.
Trauma is the biggest killer of people aged under 44 and a leading cause of death in the elderly. But it’s an area which is desperately underfunded.
We’re on a mission to raise funds for vital research and care.
Trauma research saves lives and can lessen long term disabilities. We’ve seen that survival rates have doubled in the last 10 years due to trauma research that guides improved treatments and medical advances.
Help more people rebuild their shattered lives.
Your donation will support groundbreaking research at the Centre for Trauma Sciences and innovative trauma care at The Royal London Hospital - Europe's busiest trauma centre.
Please give whatever you can. It's time to fund lifesaving care, research and innovation.
