Story
Help us secure the future of the UK's Black heritage centre.
We have dug into our archive to relive our most celebrated memories from 1981 to present day. Founded in 1981, Black Cultural Archives opened its doors in 2014 and became the UK’s first Black heritage centre. A mission founded over 30 years to build a space that preserves, collects and celebrates Black heritage and culture was realised, however the journey doesn’t end here..
Our future vision is a bold commitment to present a coherent record of the contributions of Black people in Britain. Our work promotes the importance of history and encourages open dialogue on issues that really matter today.
Since opening we have presented three major exhibitions: Re-imagine: Black Women in Britain, explored Black Britain from 1950s - 2000s through the photographic lens in Staying Power to the everyday lives of the Black Georgians. We have welcomed over 40,000 visitors and worked with London schools.
