Story
#Savethemidwife! If you would like midwifery to remain an autonomous profession in the UK that fights for the rights of women to make their own choices across pregnancy, labour and birth, and the postnatal period, please consider donating to the Save the Midwife campaign. ARM needs funds to run the campaign and to invest in our organisation so that we can provide better support for midwives and women.
ARM is leading the campaign to Save the Midwife, drawing together support from key birth, midwifery and parenting organisations. Women's rights and choice must be protected both inside and outside of the NHS.
The main issues are:
* Midwives face severe pressure, impacting women giving birth
* The statutory role of Supervisor of Midwives has been scrapped, undermining women’s choices in childbirth
*The NMC is not fit for purpose, risking women’s safety and midwives’ careers
*Midwifery leadership is undermined or non-existent at senior levels, with devastating effect on maternity policy - such as the loss of supervision *Independent midwifery under threat, so women have reduced options
*Care is becoming more fragmented and the personal relationship which adds so much in terms of satisfaction and improved safety could be lost, as could women’s rights and choices.
An experienced concerned midwife says: 'Midwives have never been this close to losing their profession in the UK. We could be seeing a repeat of what midwives face in the USA, a scary prospect as the USA has the highest level of maternal and infant death in the developed world.'
Please how your support for women wanting their rights upheld - and for the midwives who love their jobs.
