Each dog will be dressed in the owner’s colours and there will be 12 dogs in total. Bets will be taken by course bookies with all the proceeds going to Antibiotic Research UK.
Why Antibiotic Research UK?
Septicaemia (blood poisoning) kills 44,000 people/year in the UK and up to a third are caused by antibiotic resistant infections,
– which account for 13,000 deaths in the UK, the same as breast cancer
– However, there have been no new antibiotics developed for over 30 years!
– especially because such projects are not financially viable for ‘Big Pharma’.
Without antibiotics, simply treated accident, wound and dental infections become life-threatening. Joint replacement, heart surgery, cancer treatment, organ transplantation, cesarean section and routine surgery are more hazardous.
ANTRUK has identified 10 simple combination treatments with antibiotics (antibiotic resistance breakers) that are effective in treating resistant bacteria in the laboratory. ANTRUK now need to test them against bacteria from patients at a cost of £55K. Our 'BARK DE TRIOMPHE' 2017 will help to raise awareness, support and funds.
