The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profileThe capital city of Zimbabwe, Harare, is currently experiencing a severe outbreak of rabies. To stop the disease at its source, we’re partnering with the Zimbabwean Ministry of Livestock, Harare SPCA, VAWZ (Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Zimbabwe) and the Twala Animal Trust to undertake a mass vaccination campaign of dogs in the city.
- GARC has secured funding for 25,000 doses of rabies vaccine for dogs.
- Our in-country partners are providing the people-power and consumables.
- Can you help provide educational booklets for at-risk local children living within the rabies outbreak area?
Awareness activities play a big part in the overall success of dog vaccination campaigns. These booklets teach children why vaccinating dogs regularly is important, how to read dogs' body language, and what to do if a dog bites.
“Rabies prevention isn’t taught in schools in Zimbabwe. A Want a Friend, Be a Friend booklet shows children how to care for animals properly, behave safely around dogs, and what to do if exposed to rabies. This is vital, life-saving information that they might not otherwise get.”
