Story
This is a collective pot of money being raised by many people all over Northern Ireland.
Adam's Camp, successfully introduced into Northern Ireland in Summer 2016, providing a therapy camp for 10 children in the beautiful setting of Corrymeela, near Ballycastle. We ran an even larger programme in 2017, to enable twice as many families to benefit from this transformational opportunity.
In 2018 we have now TRIPLED the amount of families that the camp can reach!.
At Adam's Camp NI we recognise the daily challenges of caring for a child with ASD and the impact this can have on the parents and siblings mental health. To counteract this we provide; For sibling’s - brothers and sisters of the child with ASD are given the opportunity to ex nt with their peers, under professional support. Sibling’s often are young carers and sacrifice so much for their loved one. While their sibling with ASD is in therapy we offer activities such as horse-riding, bowling, boat trips, farm visits etc. we provide fun adventures which would normally be beyond the constraints of their family life. At ACNI sibling’s are free from all their responsibilities and expectations. Ultimately their camp experience has a positive imfluence on their self-esteem and identity. For parents - respite is built into the week, daily support workshops delivered by leading experts in the field of autism and peer support network to combat the isolation often experienced by parents. The unique residential setting of camp encourages parents to share their experiences, build resiliences and develop support networks that survive long after camp. Imporving quality family life and well-being for all.
Each family contributes to the cost of camp, but the remaining funds are raised by the Board of Trustees, their supporters and kind donors. Thank you so much for helping us to provide this amazing experience for a third year running.
