“Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer the (funds); for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (To Truth); for those in bondage and debt; in the cause of God; and for the wayfarer.” (Qur’an 9:60)
Zakat is a mandatory form of alms for all Muslims who can pay it and is one of the five pillars of Islam. Through Zakat, Muslims are required to give a proportion – traditionally defined as one-fortieth, or 2.5% – of their accumulated wealth after it has been in their possession for a lunar year for the benefit of the poor or needy.
PAGE’s Zakat collection process has been certified to be Shariah-compliant. Our Zakat collection and disbursement procedures and structures have been reviewed thoroughly by an independent Shariah Advisor, who has issued a certificate confirming that we are Shariah Compliant.
We ensure that Zakat forms are filled out by parents who are eligible for Zakat. PAGE’s systems track the Zakat funds received and ensure their implementation as per Zakat policy.
An external audit of any funds marked as Zakat funds to make sure they are being spent as per Zakat policy.
Also, please note that our Zakat policy has also been reviewed by the Council of Islamic Ideology, which supported the development of the policy.
