Story
We are really excited to have twenty members of Zaha Hadid Architect's running the Royal Parks Half marathon this October in aid of Maggie's.
Maggies is a fantastic charity close to our hearts, set up to support people and families suffering with the effects of cancer, as well as championing quality architecture for their centres.
Maggies Centres offer practical and emotional support to people with any type of cancer, at any stage, for free. Maggies receives no government funds and rely on the generosity of their supporters, focusing on the things that really make a difference, such as money worries, help with stress and anxiety, managing side-effects of treatment, relationships as well as family support.
Why are Maggies needed?
- Nearly 50% of people with cancer suffer from depression and 67% of people with cancer suffer from anxiety.
- Yet only 25% of people who need such support, receive it, thats where Maggies comes in.
- The impact of unresolved distress means people with cancer are 3 times less likely to engage with treatment.
Impact of the pandemic
- Nearly half of the people who had potential cancer symptoms in the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic did not contact their GP.
- 40,000 fewer people started cancer treatment across the UK in 2020
- Because of this, Maggies Centres expect to see an increase in people needing their help as cancer diagnoses and treatments start to catch up after the pandemic.
Thank you so much for your support!
