Story
As a non-profit organization, Yo San University relies on generous donations and competitive grants to meet our annual financial goals ensuring that we may continue to offer high quality, low-cost education to our students while providing accessible and affordable acupuncture and integrative care to the community.
Emerging from the financial challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, our immediate, short term goal is to raise $100,000 through this online campaign.
35 years of excellence | Over 220,000 treatments in compassionate care
Established in 1989, Yo San University continues to be a leading center for Traditional Chinese Medicine education and healthcare, offering a fully accredited Master's degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, a postgraduate specialty doctoral degree in both Women's Health/Reproductive Medicine and Integrative Medicine, and the newly approved entry-level doctorate program, the Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.
The Yo San University Blount Community Clinic provides quality and low-cost acupuncture care and Chinese medicine services to the local community, as it has throughout our history, with specialty care in Women's Health & Reproductive Medicine.
In collaboration with our clinical externship partners, our outreach programs bring the benefits of acupuncture and integrative care further into the community, especially low income and underserved in the Los Angeles area. Since the year 2000, our clinical programs have provided over 220,000 free or low-cost acupuncture treatments. Our current clinical partnerships include Being Alive Los Angeles, The LAC+USC Wellness Center in Boyle Heights, Venice Family Clinic, and Wise & Healthy Aging in Santa Monica. In 2023, we opened a donation-based group acupuncture clinic on campus, and we are currently developing two new doctoral externships at Stairway Recovery Homes in Sherman Oaks and Covenant House near downtown Los Angeles.
Yo San University boasts its global reach through many successful graduates and alumni practicing across the U.S and over a dozen countries around the world. Our faculty and doctoral students are engaging in groundbreaking research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals, being recognized as the best in the field.
You can make a difference in nurturing the next generation of exceptional acupuncturists, helping to provide low cost, affordable integrative healthcare to our local communities and beyond. This Just Giving Campaign is only the beginning of a 3-year initiative to transform higher education in Chinese medicine healthcare through the YSU student experience.
- OUR GOALS -
EXPANDING OUR STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Traditionally, YSU has limited its scholarships to just under 3% of enrolled students. Recognizing the high-cost of living in Los Angeles and the burden of student debt, we are committed to expanding our scholarship opportunities. In 2023, we more than tripled our scholarships and aim to drive this number much higher.
INCREASING LOW-COST CLINIC TREATMENTS
Currently, our low-fee clinic represents a significant expense item in our budget. Included in these are medical and acupuncture supplies, and salaries for both clinic staff and instructors. Covering these costs with your donation will enable us to expand our free treatment offerings in Los Angeles.
ELEVATING OUR LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER
The hub of activity at YSU, the student body has outgrown its current library space. Fortunately, a larger area on campus already exists, awaiting a significant naming donation allowing expansion into this library space, re-grounding our commitment to collaboration, innovation, and communication.
INSTALLING A VIRTUAL ANATOMY LAB
On the cutting edge of medical education is the Anatomage, the most technologically advanced 3D anatomy visualization and virtual dissection tool in anatomy and physiology education. Adopted by many of the world’s leading medical schools and institutions, Yo San University will be among the ranks to introduce this cutting-edge technology into TCM education. Your gift will harness the power of this technology and increase our student learning capabilities: https://anatomage.com/table/
UPDATING OUR CLINIC FACILITIES
In December 2022, we expanded the clinic at YSU from 15 to 22 treatment rooms, allowing us to increase our post-graduate fellowship program to double! This resident fellowship program enables qualified graduates to begin their practice in an established clinic under senior faculty supervision.
GROWING OUR HERB LAB
YSU has had an excellent herb lab for its entire 35 year history, and it’s time to upgrade. In 2024, we endeavor to add herbal extraction to our clinic offerings, modernize our raw herb storage, and improve the functionality of the herb lab through physical improvements and technology. In alignment with our standard of integrity, a full window will offer a clear view into the inner workings of the herb lab from both the clinic lobby and hallways.
Each of these facility enhancements provide opportunities for Yo San University to demonstrate our appreciation to supporters of the University with visible donor recognition. We welcome the opportunity to discuss opportunities and ways to structure your gift for this project.
