Story
When Paul was in jail, yoga and meditation with The Prison Phoenix Trust got him through. The inner strength it nourished helped him to tackle his demons and, in turn, help others.
Throughout the month of October you can join people - inside and outside prison - sharing 30 minutes a day of yoga and meditation, raising funds to bring hope, healing and second chances to more people in prison.
Since 1988 The Prison Phoenix Trust has established a track record in supporting prisoner rehabilitation through meditation and yoga. It has been nominated for Yoga of the Year in 2023.
I’ve watched people come off drugs, helped by yoga and meditation. By the time I was released I’d taught about 3,000 yoga lessons to prisoners throughout the jail. - Paul
The UK prison population is rising and with it, requests for the charity's help. Can you help us continue to respond to every prisoner who reaches out for our help?
Making a difference
£30 supports a prisoner with correspondence and a resource pack to use in their cells. These specialist resources including those suitable for people with limited literacy, neuro-diversity or mental health challenges.
Each person who asks for help receives an offer of personal mentoring through correspondence with a trained volunteer or staff. This gentle encouragement continues for as long as someone wishes - lifelong if required.
£50 helps support yoga in a prison for a month - with classes, workshops or digital technology. Trauma-responsive meditation and yoga is taught in an inclusive and accessible way by instructors trained and supported by The Prison Phoenix Trust to work effectively and safely in prisons.
£10 reaches 5 people in prison a peer-support newsletter in which prisoners and ex-offenders share with each other their own experiences, advice and tips for meditation and yoga.
