Story
Dear friends, AssalamuAlaikum
Last March 2023, a group of four of us from different parts of the UK had the privilege of visiting Gambia. Our purpose was simple - to find opportunities to make a difference in the lives of those in need. And let me tell you, the doors that were opened for us were nothing short of miraculous.
Among the many places we visited, there was one that struck a chord deep within our souls - an orphanage. These children, who have already faced so much hardship in their young lives, lacked the educational and life skills and support necessary to become self-sufficient individuals. It was a heartbreaking reality that we couldn't ignore.
On the 12th of March, we visited Madrasathul Huda, a school that provides education to around 100 orphans. The dedication of the teachers and the talent of the children left us in awe. However, the opportunities available to them were limited, and we knew that we had to do something to change that.
Currently, there are 350 children enrolled at this institution, and it is renowned for its high-quality education. In fact, it is recognized as one of the top six educational institutions in the country. The students here even compete at an international level in the recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran. But despite these achievements, the infrastructure is in dire need of improvement.
The old building, which lacks a proper foundation, needs to be demolished and rebuilt with a two-story structure. The classrooms are overcrowded, with 150 students crammed into a space meant for only 50-60. The children sit on the floor, using slates and chalks for their studies. To accommodate the large number of students, a shift-based system is in place, but it is far from ideal.
Yet, despite these challenges, the children's enthusiasm for learning is truly remarkable. We spoke to many of them, and their love for their teachers and their thirst for knowledge were evident. It was this energy and potential that inspired us to take action.
We believe that by improving the educational facilities and introducing life skills training, we can take these orphans to another level. We want to create an environment where they can thrive and have equal opportunities for success. This includes providing a higher standard of education in English, Maths, and Computing.
But we cannot do this alone. We need your support to make this vision a reality. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a significant difference in the lives of these children. Together, we can give them the tools they need to build a brighter future for themselves and break free from the cycle of poverty.
I urge you to join us on this journey of hope and transformation. Together, let's make a lasting impact on the lives of these deserving children. Your generosity will not only change their lives, but it will also inspire others to believe in the power of compassion and kindness.
Thank you for taking the time to read this heartfelt request. May your kindness and generosity be rewarded abundantly.
