Story

At Wallace State Community College, our goal every year is to run a first-class softball program. To do that, we need your help. Our funding from the school gives us a good start but does not cover everything we need to make our players' season a truly memorable one. This year has been ESPECIALLY difficult due to restrictions on camps, tournaments, and other fundraisers that we perform. We have only raised about half of our normal funds and we are concerned about how that might impact our upcoming season.

We want to give our student-athletes the best opportunity to succeed and create as many new memories as possible. The Lions softball program is asking for your assistance to help make this possible.

A Message from Head Coach A.J. Daugherty

As the Head Coach of the Wallace State softball program, I am very excited about the 2020-21 season. We have such great passion for what we do and we are surrounded by great people within the Lions Family. Our players do an excellent job of preparing to be GREAT, whether in the classroom, on the field, or in the community.

Wallace State softball is among the premier programs in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), winning 12 ACCC/Region 22 tournament championships and two NJCAA Division I national titles (2013, 2008). The Lions were also national runner-up on two other occasions (2009 and 2010) and third in 2012.

Wallace State softball was primed to add more trophies in 2020 before the season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Lions closed the 2020 season with a 12-5 record, reeling off six consecutive wins. Conference play was right around the corner.

Freshman pitcher Josie Thompson had compiled a conference-best 0.91 ERA and had a 4-2 record in 30 2/3 innings before the season was halted. Fellow freshman Haley Folds was 4-1 with a 2.10 ERA in 33 1/3 innings. Freshman Olivia Ball led Wallace State in both power categories with four homers and 18 RBIs. Erin Chambliss was hitting .400 with a pair of homers.

The goals we hope to accomplish as players, coaches, and a program takes vision, commitment, and resources. An important part of our program's funding continues to be generated from the players, their parents, and the support and generosity within the Lions community. This supporting cast is a critical part of the success of our program. This fundraiser will help us pay for the budgeted expenses for the upcoming year including needed funds to help offset the cost of equipment and program costs for the team. Along with my staff, I would like to personally thank everyone for supporting our program and invite each of you to a game this year.

Thank you for supporting the Wallace State Lions Softball team. Any assistance you can offer is greatly appreciated in this unprecedented situation.
