At Withycombe Raleigh C of E Primary School we view learning to read as one of the most important parts of your childs time at school. A child's reading skills are important to their success in school as they will allow them to access the whole of the curriculum and improve their communication and language skills. In addition, reading can open doors to all kinds of new worlds for children. We hope that all children leave our school with a love of reading and as confident and fluent readers.
As part of our curriculum review, reading has been a key area for development and it will again be included in the schools strategic development plan this year. We are really excited about the plans we have made to improve the way in which children experience reading from Foundation all the way through to Year 6.
We have already invested in some 'phonically decodable' books for our developing readers / younger children. We would like to increase these stocks further to give the children a rich choice and wider experience.
Also in KS2 we are hoping to fill some gaps in our stocks of books at certain bands within 'accelerated reader' and would like to purchase some Kindles for children to access online reading materials and take reading quizzes in class.
