Story

Last years Walk on the Wild Side was a smash, with hundreds of you raising funds for lions. Now 2023's event is going to be bigger and better. But, will you join Team Lion or Team Elephant?!

TEAM ELEPHANT:

Its no surprise the fastest-growing activity in the last few years has been walking. This simple act has the power to transform our physical and mental health. Yet thousands of animals in zoos are denied this essential right of movement.

That's why Born Free is leading this year's Walk on the Wildside challenge to walk 3, 10 or 15 miles on World Elephant Day, 12 August 2023, in solidarity with captive elephants and in celebration of free-roaming Elephants in Asia and Africa.

Choose from the Ellie Amble a family-friendly 3 miles, the Tusker Hike a challenging 10 miles or take on the Trunk Trek an endurance 15 miles.

Will you walk in solidarity with elephants past and present? It's easy to set up your challenge page by selecting the orange 'Start Fundraising' button at the top of this page then select 'Doing your own thing' as the activity option.

TEAM LION:

There are just 20,000 lions left in the wild!! 90% lost in just 55 years. There is a real and imminent threat they could disappear from much of their current range in the wild. Will we be the generation that allows the King of the Animals to fade away? NOT ON OUR WATCH!

We are challenging you to take 20,000 steps on World Lion Day 10 August 2023, one step for each of the lions left in their natural habitat. Every step you take will raise vital funds to ensure their survival in the wild now and for future generations.

There is hope. Born Free is on the frontline fighting for their survival. But we must do more. And YOU can help. Put your best foot forward for lions and set up your challenge page by selecting the orange 'Start Fundraising' button at the top of this page then select 'Doing your own thing' as the activity option.
